Aker Solutions and Aker BP · Gangway and access simulation

Valhall Flank West: the gangway proven before the first transfer

Presentation in the OSC simulation room, with a video wall and several operator screens

The challenge

Aker BP was preparing its first walk-to-work deployment. The vessel and gangway had to be proven to perform together, and the teams had to understand the environment, before a single person crossed offshore.

What OSC delivered

  • Vessel and gangway verified together in simulation before any offshore transfer
  • Teams previewed the environment and foresaw potential problems before moving into it
  • Heave compensation, access checks, sea state replication and floating-to-floating operations
  • Multi-operator training that built a lasting safety and training culture
1.7M hours

Worked on Valhall Flank West, with only 10 minor injuries recorded

"The big benefit is the ability to foresee what's about to happen, to understand the environment before we move into it."
