Orion: a floating heavy lift vessel, rehearsed before its first project

The challenge

DEME's Orion marks a fundamental shift from stable jack-up operations to floating conditions, continuously subject to wave action and vessel motion. The simulator had to bridge that gap before the first project began.

What OSC delivered

  • A full digital twin of the Orion: vessel, crane, ballasting and environment
  • Full crew rehearsals bringing master, lifting supervisor, ballast, crane and DP operators into one integrated scenario
  • Design and engineering teams gained hands-on experience before the project started
  • Methods, tools and equipment designed, tested and refined in simulation, making the simulator an engineering development environment

"We're able to prove to our crew, our clients, our marine warranty surveyors, certifying bodies, and indeed the entire market that we're ready to take this revolutionary vessel into operation."
